Hotel Review: Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana

Situated on one of the world’s most famous beaches, the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana offers a luxurious five-star experience with views of Copacabana Beach and the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain. Originally built as a TV station in 1971, the hotel features 375 rooms, world-class amenities, and a variety of activities. Located on the west end of Copacabana, it provides easy walking access to the Ipanema and Leblon beaches.

With the exclusive Fairmont Gold Experience, guests enjoy premium perks, including access to the Fairmont Gold Lounge on the 4th floor. This includes private check-in and check-out, complimentary shoe polishing, a personalized wake-up call with a beverage and croissant, butler service, happy hour, and a buffet breakfast in the lounge. The dedicated Fairmont concierge is also available to arrange tours and reservations. The Fairmont Gold Lounge is open throughout the day, offering a private space to relax with fresh fruit, bottled water, and homemade chocolates available. In addition to the lounge, the hotel features 12 meeting rooms that can be reserved for business meetings and events. One of our favorite parts of the stay was the buffet breakfast in the lounge. We loved sitting outside with an ocean view while indulging in a selection of fresh tropical fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, croissants, pastries, breads, juices, and coffee. The buffet also featured traditional Brazilian specialties like pão de queijo, brigadeiro, and cashew fruit. From the à la carte menu, my personal favorites were the traditional tapioca crepe with ham and cheese, avocado toast, and omelets.

On the 6th floor, guests have access to two stunning pools. The main pool overlooks Copacabana Beach, offering breathtaking views of Sugarloaf Mountain, with the hotel’s dining options nearby—Spirit Copa Bar to the right and Marine Restô to the left. The second pool, located at the back of the hotel, is perfect for catching the sun when it shifts to the other side later in the day. This floor also features a comfortable lounge space with plush seating, a luxurious spa, a fully equipped gym, and the Coa & Co Cafe.

With endless things to do in Rio de Janeiro, the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana offers a variety of activities for guests. Enjoy biking, outrigger boating, yoga, paddleboarding, and beach tennis, along with exclusive access to Tropìk, the hotel’s very own beach club and restaurant. The fun continues into the evening with live music performances by the pool on weekends. Guests can also explore the hotel’s concept store in the lobby or indulge in masterclass tastings featuring olive oil, coffee, and chocolate, for a truly immersive experience.

During our stay, we had the pleasure of staying in the One-Bedroom Ocean View Suite with Fairmont Gold on the 7th floor. From our suite, we could enjoy the live music from the 6th-floor pool area in the evenings. The suite featured two balconies—one beside the bed overlooking the pool area and the other, by the living room, offering a stunning view of the beach. Upon entering, we were welcomed by a mini bar and a cozy living room with a couch and TV, where the Fairmont greeted us with their own sparkling Brut, house-made chocolates, and honey bread crafted with local honey through their Bee Sustainable Program. To the right, there was a spacious closet stocked with a yoga mat, flip-flops, plush robes, a safe, and a beach bag for us to use during our stay. The marble bathroom was stunning, featuring double sinks, a rain shower, and luxurious finishes. The master bedroom was perfectly sized, with a king bed, TV, and desk. Our suite was serviced twice daily—once in the early afternoon and again at night for turndown service. The room service menu was extensive, offering a variety of delicious options, and I especially loved ending my nights with a hot chamomile tea delivered right to the room.

The staff at Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana was incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to cater to any needs at any time of the day. I especially loved the convenience of the concierge service, which I could easily contact via WhatsApp for any questions or requests. Whether I needed a hotel car service for a ride, lunch reservations, or even fast-pass tickets to Sugarloaf Mountain, the concierge handled everything seamlessly, making our stay really enjoyable.

Overall, if you’re looking for a luxurious stay in Rio de Janeiro, the Fairmont Copacabana has it all. From spacious ocean-view rooms and plush beds to exceptional service, water activities, an exclusive member lounge, top-tier restaurants, live music, a gym, and a spa, every detail is designed for an unforgettable experience. With its prime beachfront location, this hotel is the perfect choice for a stay in Rio.
